POOL CLOSURE FROM 14/11/2024

We want to take a moment to provide you with an update on recent developments regarding the status of our pool facilities and also share details of the significant upgrades we’re undertaking.

We have experienced a few underground leaks around the pool in recent years  and again earlier this year. We now have another leak and it is apparent that we have a problem with the pipework all around the pool. It was our intention to rectify this latest leak and then go on to improve the pipe connections around the pool.

Despite our best efforts to keep the pool open during this period, we have been advised that there are structural risks in doing this and the water level should be reduced while excavation takes place. This means, very sadly, that it is necessary to close the pool until these essential works are completed. There is no good time to do this but on balance winter is better than summer.

The last swimming session will be on Wednesday 13th November and will be working as hard as we can to reopen the pool in 3-4 weeks. Our team is committed to minimising any inconvenience caused by this closure. We will keep you updated on our progress and will notify you in advance of the reopening date. Our intention is to improve the quality of the pipework so that we can hopefully enjoy at least a few years of leak free operation.

This was not a cost we were expecting and we already had plans for improvements to the pool area this winter to address other legacy issues. Most of these will still go ahead and include replacing the roof of the changing rooms and replacing the temporary window  in the changing room reception area with a permanent curved glass window. This work will start to bring the changing rooms up to the quality of the main building and in keeping with the Saltdean Lido heritage site.

We also recently took delivery of a pool cover which will, when the pool reopens, enable us to maintain  the temperature of the pool, while also reducing the very significant utility costs.

We do understand how important the pool is to everyone and we are doing everything we can to have these repairs completed as quickly as possible. We’re also working on the best ways to support our valued season ticket holders during this period, and will be in touch once we have more updates on the repairs.

We sincerely apologise for any disruption to your plans and thank you for your understanding and patience as we make these vital improvements. Your support is invaluable as we work to enhance and preserve Saltdean Lido, ensuring it remains a beautiful and functional space for the community to enjoy.

We hope you will continue to support us through gym memberships, attending our events and enjoying the café and restaurant and look forward to welcoming you back into the pool soon!

Warm Regards,

The Saltdean Lido Team

WINTER (SEASON) IS HERE

Winter Swim Programme

We are pleased to announce that we will be opening the Saltdean Lido pool for the winter period 2024-2025.

This winter, the pool will open for 5 days a week from Monday 28th October 2024, until Sunday 4th May 2025.

Days of operation will be Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, and the pool will be open from 7am until 11 am.

Opening times over the Christmas and New Year Bank Holidays are to be confirmed, but we are hoping to hold our popular Christmas Day swim once again subject to lifeguard availability.

The cost of season tickets will be £230 and the price for people without Season Tickets will be £7.20 per hour for adults. So if you plan to swim at least one to two times a week, it’s likely a season ticket will be better value. A young person ticket will be £4.20 and concession price (students, disabled and 65+) £5.40.

The pool will be heated to approximately 20 °C.

The rising costs of electricity, water, gas, staffing and essential maintenance have significantly impacted our overall operating expenses. Our level of pricing is necessary to ensure we can continue to provide a safe, clean and enjoyable experience for everyone.

As a community organisation dedicated to supporting our community, we are not focused on making profits. Our goal is to cover the costs of running the Lido while maintaining the highest standards our swimmers expect. We appreciate your understanding and value your ongoing support.

Tickets are on sale now!

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Pool Update: Repair Work to Keep Saltdean Lido Open

We want to inform our customers and season ticket holders about our ongoing efforts to maintain the pool’s operation while addressing a recent issue.  We’ve discovered a leak in the main pool, located underground, which has affected the pipework. To keep the water at the appropriate levels, we need to regularly top it up from our water supply. This makes it difficult to maintain a constant temperature so you may notice some fluctuation in the pool temperature, which will range between 18 and 20 degrees during this period.

Our Commitment to Stay Open
Our goal is to keep Saltdean Lido open for as long as possible so you can continue to enjoy swimming and exercising with us. We’re working closely with our partners at Wave Active, who manage the pool, and our groundwork contractors, Drain Line, to start repairs as quickly as possible. We expect work to commence shortly and hope to repair the leak quickly, but we’ll then go on to replace all the pipework around the pool to overcome this reoccurring problem.

What This Means for You
- The pool will remain open, though temperatures may fluctuate between 18 and 20 degrees.
- We are committed to minimising disruption to ensure you can continue to swim in a clean and safe environment during this period.
- Season ticket holders and customers are encouraged to continue their visits as usual.

Thank you for your patience and support as we undertake these costly repairs. We share your frustration and appreciate your understanding, and are doing everything we can to keep the pool open and enjoyable for everyone!
